Welcome to Preschool Prep, a pivotal year where your child’s world expands dramatically and play blossoms into purposeful learning. Our program for 3- and 4-year-olds is thoughtfully designed to channel their boundless curiosity and endless “Why?” questions into foundational academic and social skills.

We transition from simple exploration to more structured, thematic units. Our classrooms are vibrant centers of discovery, where children learn to ask questions and work together to find the answers, all while building the confidence and independence they need for Pre-K and beyond.

Your Child’s Day

Your Child’s Day

A day in Preschool Prep is a predictable and comforting blend of joyful play and structured group activities. The morning begins with “Circle Time,” where we greet friends, discuss the calendar and weather, share personal stories, and introduce the theme of the day. This builds a strong, supportive sense of community.

The core of our day is “Center Time.” During this period, children make their own choices, moving freely between well-defined learning areas. These include a Dramatic Play center, a Science & Discovery table, a cozy Reading nook, a Math & Manipulatives station, and the Art easel. We also engage in group projects, collaborative games, and ample outdoor time to develop and refine gross motor skills.

Key Developmental Areas

Our curriculum focuses on this critical leap in cognitive and social growth.

Cognitive Development

At this age, children become true problem-solvers. We challenge them with activities that encourage critical thinking, such as sequencing stories, matching, and sorting by multiple attributes (e.g., by size and color). They begin to grasp early math concepts by counting, recognizing patterns, and measuring ingredients for a class cooking project. Our science curriculum is hands-on, encouraging them to make predictions, observe changes, and record their findings.

Language & Communication Development

This is a crucial year for pre-reading and writing. Our classroom is immersed in literacy, from a library filled with quality books to labels on bins and furniture. Children learn to recognize their own name in print and begin identifying other letters and their corresponding sounds. We practice storytelling, where children dictate their own imaginative tales, which we write down for them. This builds vocabulary and a foundational understanding that written words have meaning.

Motor Skill Development

Fine motor skills are refined daily. Children gain confidence using scissors correctly, practice holding crayons and pencils with a proper grip, and begin to master more complex puzzles. Gross motor skills are developed on the playground, where they practice balancing, climbing with more coordination, pedaling tricycles, and engaging in group games that require following rules and directions.

Social & Emotional Development

We place a heavy emphasis on moving from “me” to “we.” Children engage in true cooperative play, learning to share, negotiate roles (“You be the doctor, I’ll be the patient”), and work together on a common goal. Our teachers guide them in using their “big words” to express complex feelings and resolve peer conflicts peacefully. We foster independence and responsibility, encouraging children to manage their own belongings, help with classroom jobs, and take pride in their self-help skills.
